Condition: This item is in excellent condition, appears to have no repairs, restoration, cracks, breaks, no missing parts, has original everything. Feet are old plywood, with some separation at toes & slight chipping of wood, possibly deliberate as this adds to his "troll" look. Pipe cleaners appear somewhat faded but are more attractive as such, we feel. Handmade, stamped on bottom of wood feet "Made in Sweden", no label/other tags. Made of pinecone section with pipe cleaners, paper maiche/ hollow wood (?)hand-painted green head, hand-painted face with pipe cleaner as nose. Hair is original, hand-glued, appears to be natural fibers, which is shedding somewhat from age, and old glue is showing. Axe & log are wood, axe is handcarved, painted. Has a pink rope attached to top of back which is his 'tail'. Clothing is fabric with hand-applied patches in a "hobo" look. Stands: 5" tall, @ 5" wide, @ 2.5" deep. FEATURED: One of the most wonderful TROLLS we've ever found, with a large green head, a balding mane of shaggy long 'hair', handmade patched pants, big bare feet, and carrying his trusty Axe and firewood for the night ahead. A wild hand-painted intense green face, with a fabulous pip-cleaner nose, and that real pine cone upper body completes this character, made of course in Sweden, home to the original Trolls. His large flat plywood feet, in need of a pedicure , have a stamp verifying Sweden was his home originally, and he is certainly a moody, gruff yet somehow weirdly charming personality that captured our fancy immediately. Certainly not the happy Trolls of the pink, blue, or orange faux fur hair and plastic bodies, but a Troll of the He who lives under the Bridge or in the Deep Woods sort, the type that is found in the legendary Scandinavian Fairy Tale world, the Edward Gorey type of Troll, not Disney cartoons but Jim Henson's world of beings with interesting personalities, each one. We wish we knew who made him, and where in Sweden he began his long life, but he's a mystery so far, as we could not find any of his fellow Trolls on-line at all. But certainly handmade, and very unique, this wonderfully thought-up creature is a super being to have in one's home, perhaps offering a little magical, other-wordly protection with his axe and that intense face for your place, and certainly a being who will fascinate everyone who sees him and wants to know more about him!
MEASURES: 5 inches tall, 5 inches across, and @ 2.5 inches deep, vintage probably from the 50's, we think, and made in Sweden, per the stamp on one of his big bare feet! He's a mystery as to who made him, why, and does he have relatives in Sweden, but that's a mystery for you to solve if you can! Hand made and really wonderfully creative, and very, very unique, this Troll is THE Troll you have heard and read about as a child, and a really fabulous piece of quirky folk art to have in your home, as part of your collection of dolls or folk art, or just as a small but mighty protector of the spirits in your place!
